Kuwait Opens Visa on Arrival for GCC Residents

Kuwait Opens Visa on Arrival for GCC Residents

Travel to Kuwait from the Gulf just became much easier. With Kuwait opening visa on arrival for GCC residents, from August 10, 2025, foreign residents of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman can now get a tourist visa directly when they arrive in Kuwait. No embassy visit. No pre-approval. Just present your documents at the airport, land border, or seaport and receive your visa on the spot.

This policy, announced by First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, is one of the biggest travel changes Kuwait has made in years. It replaces old rules from 2008 that limited this privilege to certain professions like doctors, engineers, and executives. Now, any foreign national with a valid GCC residency can apply.

Who Can Get the Visa on Arrival

If you are a foreign resident of any GCC country, you are eligible. You just need to meet a few conditions:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months
  • GCC residence permit valid for at least 6 months
  • Return or onward travel ticket
  • No travel ban or blacklist in Kuwait

How to Get It When You Arrive

The process is simple:

  1. Arrive at Kuwait International Airport, land border, or seaport.
  2. Go to the immigration counter for visa on arrival.
  3. Present your passport, GCC residency card, and travel ticket.
  4. Immigration staff will verify your details and issue the visa.
  5. In some cases, biometric data may be collected.

The visa is valid for 90 days and can be used for leisure trips, visiting family and friends, or short business stays.

Opening Kuwait to Millions

This change impacts around 25 million foreign residents living in GCC countries. It gives them the same convenience already seen in places like the UAE and Oman, while making Kuwait more competitive in the regional tourism market.

It also supports Kuwait Vision 2035, the country’s long-term plan to diversify its economy and grow its tourism sector. By opening its borders to a wider audience, Kuwait can boost visitor numbers, increase spending in hospitality and retail, and strengthen its reputation as a connected Gulf destination.

Digital Options Still Available

If you prefer to sort out your travel documents in advance, Kuwait’s e-visa platform remains open. It covers tourist, family, business, and official visit visas and processes applications within 1–3 business days. This gives travelers the flexibility to choose between applying online or getting the visa on arrival.

What It Means for Travelers

  • Easier last-minute trips from GCC countries
  • More flexibility for business and leisure travel
  • Faster entry for family visits during holidays or special events
  • The option to explore Kuwait without complex paperwork

Making Kuwait Part of Your Weekend Plans

Kuwait is also part of ongoing discussions about a unified GCC visa system, which could allow travel across all six Gulf countries with one document. Until that happens, this new policy is already a major step toward better connectivity in the region.

If you are a GCC resident, this is the perfect time to add Kuwait to your travel list. From its waterfront corniche to its museums, markets, and growing dining scene, the country now feels a lot closer.
